In Stavanger, Norway, there live four strong-willed, accomplished and rock solid instrumentalists with an ear for tasty melodies, funky grooves and spicy harmonies. Together they form the band AdLib: a different kind of jazz orchestra, whose expression ranges from beautifully quiet to ecstatically crazy, and emphasizes everything in between – tied together by rhythms that, at worst, cause sporadic outbreaks of uncontrollable dancing. Is it jazz? Is it funk? Is it fusion, progressive, rock, world or pop? It’s not always easy to tell. That it’s filled with enthusiasm, life, seriousness and humour, however, is a matter of widespread agreement.
Before Christmas, AdLib will release their first record; a five-track EP which documents the best of the band’s musical escapades as a quartet. The release of the EP, titled “Maybe Attending”, will be duly celebrated with pomp and circumstance on the 19th of December, 2010, on the main stage of Folken, Stavanger’s student society. Get ready for a release concert of proportions. With several brand new tunes, guest appearances, dancing, laughter and general merriment, is there a better way to kick off the holidays?
Do you really want to miss out on Stavanger’s most defining funk/jazz-record release of the century?
